About the Position
Wildwood Wildlife Park Zoo & Safari is seeking a motivated and dedicated professional to join our animal husbandry team. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of animal care and providing an exceptional guest experience.
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of zoo safety protocols and animal husbandry best practices. This position requires a hardworking individual capable of maintaining safe, functional, and enriching habitats that promote positive animal welfare for a diverse collection of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
Teamwork is essential to successfully complete large projects and provide outstanding care to our animal collection.
Basic Job Duties
- Attend to assigned animals by preparing diets, feeding, and providing fresh water.
- Sanitize enclosures, furnishings, and food/water dishes as scheduled or as needed.
- Perform approved enrichment and training activities.
- Assist in the capture and restraint of animals.
- Inspect animals daily for health or behavioral changes; collect fecal samples; condition/train animals for veterinary procedures.
- Assist veterinarians with medical exams and administer medications as directed.
- Record observations, health concerns, treatments, and animal data in the facility’s recordkeeping database.
- Complete animal welfare assessments as assigned.
- Exercise sound judgment and follow all safety protocols when working around unpredictable or potentially dangerous animals.
- Perform light repairs and maintenance of exhibits and enclosures.
- Support the zoo’s Vision, Mission, and Values while contributing to a positive, professional team environment.
Education & Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Wildlife Management, Animal Science, Zoology, Biology, or a related field.
- Previous animal husbandry experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of exotic animal care and captive management, with the ability to adapt to collection changes.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Must be able to lift 60+ pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be comfortable working around strong odors, dust, hay, dander, and damp environments.
- Ability to stand, bend, crouch, climb, crawl, or carry objects for extended periods as required.
- May be exposed to chemicals, fumes, moving equipment, vehicles, and potentially dangerous wildlife.
- Must maintain current tetanus vaccination and a negative TB test (within the current year).
- Flexible schedule, punctuality, and reliability are essential.
- Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary commensurate with experience, typically $32,000–$33,000 annually.
• Benefits include life insurance, vacation pay, holiday bonus, and Simple IRA eligibility after one year of employment.
