Job Description

Serves as Full-time Zookeeper for the Columbian Park Zoo, responsible for providing care and maintenance of Zoo’s animal collection.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Degree in Biology or related field and previous supervisory experience with animals in a zoological setting is preferred.  Ability to physically clean/feed/restrain a variety of exotic animals.  Ability to monitor animals for signs of illness or disease.  Ability to apply effective leadership methods while training and mentoring subordinates in a team-setting.  Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.  Ability to utilize critical decision-making skills in response to urgent situations.  Ability to engage with visitors and provide quality customer service. Ability to regularly work weekend and holiday hours.  Must possess valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Incumbent’s performs duties indoors and outdoors and may involve continuous physical exertion, such as standing/walking for long periods, safely lifting/carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds, climbing ladders, bending, shoveling, raking, pushing pulling/objects.  Duties involve handling and caring for a variety of animals with different temperaments, exposure to animal bites as well as dust, dirt, adverse weather, extreme temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and some power tools.\"\\"\\"\"
